Michael Webster

2030 Water Resources Group

Mike is the Program Manager of the 2030 Water Resources Group.  2030 WRG is a multi-donor trust fund, managed by the World Bank Global Water Practice to address global water security.  The fund works with the public, private and civil society sectors to catalyse financing and innovation through global and country programs.

Prior to joining 2030 WRG, Mike was the Executive Director of the Water and Sanitation Directorate of the City of Cape Town in South Africa.   In this position, he led the City’s response to the 2015-17 drought by implementing a strategy to achieve water security.  Under Mike’s leadership, the Directorate was the first utility in Africa to join the Leading Utilities of the World.

Prior to joining the City, Mike worked for the World Bank for 16 years as a water and sanitation specialist based in Washington DC, New Delhi and Harare. Mike graduated as a civil engineer from the University of Cape Town and went on to do an MSc in engineering at Loughborough University and a Master’s in Public Policy at Princeton University.
