Martin Ginster

SASOL

Martin Ginster is a water and environmental professional holding the position of Head of Environment (Water, Waste, Land and Biodiversity) within Sasol’s Corporate Risk and SHE Function. In 1991 he received his BSc Hons (chemistry and soil science) and in 1993 supported by a Sasol research sponsorship obtained his MSc (soil science), both from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

After 12 years in water and environmental research at Sasol’s Research and Development Division he joined the corporate head-office of Sasol as Water and Waste Advisor and in 2014 was appointed to his current position. In addition to his work at Sasol Martin served between 2011 and 2013 on the Minister of Water Affair’s National Water Advisory Committee (NWAC) and was in January 2019 appointed the private sector co-chair of the Strategic Water Partners Network (SWPN). Martin holds a position as a part time senior research associate with North-West University’s research niche area on the Cultural Dynamics of Water (CuDyWat) undertaking transdisciplinary water studies with a focus on the Vaal River System. Married to Anne, a biotechnologist turned crafter and volunteer robotics coach, they live in Johannesburg raising three sons all with an avid interest in football. Fluent in German he enjoys jazz, camping as well as collecting and refurbishing antique sewing machines.
